The trainings will focus on practices that incorporate Social Emotional Learning, Aggression Replace-ment Training, The Peace Curriculum, Parent/Family Empowerment, a rigorous discipline system, Restorative Jus-tice and procedures that change both teacher and student behavior. Participants will learn these strategies through demonstration and practice. Please bring a flash drive when you attend Dr. Salmon?s workshop so that you may copy more of her materials to take back to the classroom. |

A review of the existing research on bullying within the larger context of school violence as well as the importance of accepting the "Ecological" model of bullying will be detailed. Following this background information, a review of bullying policies across the United States and the legislative requirements of Illinois policies will be shared. Suggestions for sound bully policies will be provided as will the importance of appropriate responses to victims and bystanders by school support staff. This presentation will be particularly beneficial to special education administrators as they often supervise programs that include students with behavioral and/or emotional difficulties who may more frequently find themselves in the role of bully and/or victim. |
